Ok here's a dilemma if you were completely penniless and light headed with hunger, and you found $20,000 lying around near a bank ...
would you A.. scoop it up and go for a real blow out...
............................................................
or B. Hand it in and slowly succumb from hunger which takes considerable time and is avoidable...

I'd keep it after all, the banks should be more careful, and they have been quick enough to grab my cash, with all the unbridled excitment of Ebeneezer Scrooge..

Mr Bank manager, I found this $15000 lying in the road. Aren't I a noble individual for returning it? Oh? A reward? How kind! What? You say there was more money lost and some scoundral has absconded with it? How shocking!

20000 dollars in cash. Hmm tricky one. If e.g. there had been a bank robbery on the news and the notes were enumerated you could be thought to be one of those behind the crime onec you started spending that money. If I knkew of someone who had reported it missing or stolen I would turn it in without hesitation but if no one had reported it missing and it was cash (after all anyone can claim cash) I would consider it my lucky find. I think I'd donate at least half of it to charity though because I believe that something like this windfall should be shared.

Ahh but remember you are about to pass out from hunger implication in a crime, or a charity donation, would be the last thing on your mind...I'd rush as fast as my famished body would allow, to Gambrinos, where the plates do groan with genuine Italian grub..then consider my options

if i was dying of hunger, i would take it, but if i just happened to see it lying around, i wouldnt.

hmmm well ... you could go eat first, after all, if it was 20 grand, even if you decided to give it back, they wouldn't notice a few quid missing that you'd paid for the meal now would they...

I heard that posession is nine tenths of the law! i'd give 2 grand back and keep the rest! simple!

Oh dear, that's really a dilemma. Well, if it really is $20 I would maybe keep it, but from $50 upwards, this would give me a guilty concience and I would and could not keep it.

course there is one other possibility, you said that in this dilemma, you were weak and lightheaded with hunger, so wouldn't it be a real bummer if you found the cash, and the shock of it caused you to pass out, and while you were lying there someone absconded with it! so near yet so far away! grin

Good question. *thingks* ... Since it was 20000 dollars, I'd spend and keept some of it, and turn the rest in. I'd first spend a couple of dollars to eat at a local restoraunt (like a burger or chicken place, and then I'd go to a local grocery store to buy some canned foods. But I don't think I'd feel comfortable spending it all on a huge thing like a fansy restoraunt or something... Then again, well, if it were cash, I think I'd keep it, but if not, I don't know how I'd handle that.

But remember, if it's a typical American person who lost the money and you'd turn in 19800 dollars he/she would sue you for theft and you'd probably end up in prison for a year for stealing $200 from that person. Seriously, there are people who would do that.
